How Many Types of Spiders Are There?
There are so many types of spiders; almost too many to count. According to National Geographic, there are more than 45,000 different species of spiders on Earth. Within that number there are 120 spider families. There are likely more that have not been identified.
Where Do Spiders Live?
Spiders can live everywhere on Earth, except in the North and South Pole. Even the ocean. Really! Spiders live and thrive in areas where they are left alone. In the dark corners of your attic, rain forests, wetlands, forests, etc., you will find spiders.
What Do Spiders Eat?
Spiders do not want to bother humans. However, spiders are predatory creatures. They eat insects. This is how spiders are a benefit to humans. They eat flies, wasps, moths, mosquitos, and other flying insects. Collectively, spiders was over a million tons of insects each year. There is one species that is a vegetarian: Bagheera Kiplingi spider.
What Is the Largest Spider?
Spiders come in a large variety of sizes. South America is home to the largest spider; the South American goliath birdeater tarantula. It has fangs as long as one inch and grow as large as one foot across.
Lastly
Not all spiders are bad. If you see a spider, do not get scared. You can take a photo and email it to us to see if it is venomous. Do not be aggressive and risk the spider needing to defend itself.
