The fear of spiders is very common. Add in the possibility that they may be poisonous and you can have a real frenzy on your hands. Not all spiders are foes! There have many important roles in our lives. Non-poisonous spiders can help reduce other pests from your home. An infestation of any species of spider is not good. If you are experiencing an increase of spiders in your home you may be wondering how to get rid of spiders in your home?

Cut the Clutter

We say this alot in the pest control industry. Pests take advantage of any areas that have clutter or a large amount of stored items. Why? They items are rarely disturbed, often contain some type of protection from the elements and possibly food. Therefore if you have a large amount of clutter in a not often used area of your home like the basement or attic, you are creating an inviting area for spiders. So how do you get rid of spiders in your home ‘s basement or attic? Every six months you should go through storage areas, sweep them clean, clean any spider webs and transfer any stored items to sealed plastic containers (which keep bugs out).

Seal the Cracks

This is another thing we will mention when discussing infestations; seal the cracks and/or crevices around your home. This is essentially a road block. Spiders can crawl through cracks in your walls, siding, window sills, etc. Making necessary home repairs and sealing cracks and crevices will reduce spiders in your home.

Inspect Packages

Spiders (and other pests) may be accidentally brought into your home from packages you receive. Think about a box that sat on your front porch until you got home. A spider could crawl in through the packaging, you pick it up and then that pest gets a free ride into your home. By visually inspecting the package and gently shaking a light package can reduce the chance a spider will be brought into your home. After taking your purchased item out of the box, promptly dispose of the packaging.

We hope these three habits will answer the question of how to get rid of spiders in your home!
