House Flies and Your Home
Simply named because the flies are often found in and/or around your home. An adult house fly can drive you crazy during the 15 to 25 short days of their lives. They are about a quarter of an inch long and defy fly swatters. House flies have been around for a very long time and do not have any indicators that they are going extinct. House flies live mostly on a liquid diet. Their bodies can also feed off solid foods and turn it into the liquid they need for survival. They search and taste for sugars (their favorite) through their feet. And, those taste buds are 10 million times more sensitive than humans.
House flies set up their roots. Flies rarely move more than 1 – 2 miles from where they were born. Occasionally, if they are in search of food they have been known to fly up to 20 miles. They have a short life span and most everything they need is often near where they were born.
Why house flies should not take up residence in your home? These are germ carrying pests. The common house fly can carry over 100 different diseases that can harm humans. Keep your home house fly free for best results.
How can you keep your home free of house flies?
Clean up! And, keep you your screens intact. Keep trash away from entry points of your home. Make sure you have screens set up and inspect them for any holes. The best way to not have house flies is to keep them outside. When you are eating outside, use a screen tent, food covers and you can use essential oils to help keep those pesky house flies away.
